3 things to do in oslo

Scandinavia is attracting more visitors than ever, these days, and with low-cost airfares from the US, Oslo is certainly attracting it’s share of the attention. If you’re thinking about visiting Norway’s capital, we’ve got some great suggestions for you! Check it out!

1. Vigeland Sculpture Park

With more than 200 sculptures by the artist Gustav Vigeland, you can wander through this public park and marvel at the fantastical works in bronze, granite and cast iron, including The Angry Boy (Sinnataggen in Norwegian), The Monolith (Monolitten) and The Wheel of Life (Livshjulet). Not only are Vigeland’s sculptures throughout this beautiful par, but Vigeland was also responsible for the design and architectural outline of the park. With more than one million annual visitors, it’s one of Norway’s top attractions, and a perfect way to get your steps in, while soaking up some art and culture!

2. Damstredet & Telthusbakken

In the center of Oslo, check out these charming wooden houses from the late 1700s and the 1800s. They’re well-preserved, and still inhabited! Damstredet is a cobbled street with wooden houses from the first half of the 19th century. The street runs between Akersveien and Fredensborgveien and is just a few hundred feet long. Telthusbakken is located between Maridalsveien and Akersveien, just below the medieval church Gamle Aker Kirke. On one side of the short street, you’ll find a series of small wooden houses, and on the other side is a large garden , Egebergløkka. If you’re looking for romance, you can walk alongside the garden on the Kjærlighetsstien ("The Love Trail").

3. Ride the Holmenkollen Line.

The Holmenkollen line operates as Metro Line 1, and for the cost of a singe ride, you can take the tram up to the top of the hill for some fantastic views of Oslo and the surrounding area. It’s really gorgeous. While you’re up there, you can check out the ski museum, but even if you just want to buy a beer and enjoy the view, it’s totally worth it. For authentic Norwegian cuisine in a charming environment, and with gorgeous views, have lunch at the Frognerseteren restaurant. Then, when you’ve had your fill, head back down to the center of town to enjoy the rest that Oslo has to offer!
