Prior to the pandemic, we used to get the question all the time: “Are there really still travel agents?” Occasionally, there’d be a typed “LOL” after the question, as though there was something amusing about the idea that we’d started a travel business.

Well, we haven’t been getting that question much (or at all, actually) since the pandemic, and the “LOL”s have definitely stopped. It seems that the rest of the world has suddenly realized that just because it’s possible to book your own travel online, it doesn’t mean that’s the best way to travel. Since travel is more complicated than ever, you might consider whether having a professional in your corner when booking that next trip makes sense.

In fact, travel agencies do exist, and each of us at Huckleberry Travel is a professional travel advisor—the “agent” thing isn’t so much the preferred title in our industry, these days, by the way. And as a hallmark of that professionalism, each of us is a member of the American Society of Travel Advisors, or “ASTA.” As ASTA travel advisors, each of us has pledged to conduct Huckleberry Travel’s business activities according to ASTA’s code of ethics — in a manner that promotes the ideal of integrity in travel. It’s an express condition of membership in our professional association, and we take those responsibilities seriously.

What exactly is involved in this code of ethics? Well, we’ve pledged to be factual and accurate when providing information about our services, and those of our suppliers. We provide full and complete information about the terms and conditions of booking of any supplier we may use when booking travel for our clients. And we follow-up when something goes sideways. And much more.

Our ASTA membership demonstrates our proficiency, our professionalism, and our dedication to the industry. After all, the traveling public depends on travel advisors to provide honest and competent guidance.
