passport renewal delays

passport renewal delays

It seems like we’re warning people about this more and more frequently, but…

…passport processing delays are once again very much a thing.

We’re getting advisories that it can take up to 18 weeks to process passport applications. So, if you haven’t looked at your passport in a while, and you’re planning to travel this summer, best to pull your passports out of where ever it is that you keep them and double check the dates.

And you can’t necessarily rely on an expedited processing service. We had one client who had to cancel a trip because his renewal didn’t arrive on time, even though he’d left plenty of time to receive his new passport. And he couldn’t get an appointment for an interview to renew on an expedited basis, because all the appointment slots were booked up.

To travel to some destinations, you may need six months’ validity, so if you’re close to needing to renew, better do it right away, so that you’re not stuck.
