where korea meets switzerland
While we haven’t been able to travel internationally to many destinations, recently, lots of us are satisfying our wanderlust by binge watching shows that inspire travel. And among the shows that have popped up on our radar, recently, none is more unexpected than the Korean show Crash Landing on You.
Crash Landing on You is the story of Yoon Se-ri, a South Korean successful entrepreneur and a chaebol (wealthy corporate family — it’s a thing in Korea — trust us) heiress. She goes paragliding in Seoul, one day and a tornado blows off course, and she crash-lands into the North Korean portion of the DMZ. She meets an elite captain in the Korean People's Army who is patrolling when he finds her. And, well, let’s just say that "hijinks ensue.”
So, what’s the deal with Switzerland? Well, without getting two far into it, let’s just say that not only were portions of the series filmed in Switzerland — part of the story is set in Switzerland, too.
Wait. What?
We’re not going to get into the plausibility of how Switzerland figures into the plot, but, trust us — it’s part of the story.
The show is so popular — especially across Asia — that tourists are actually starting to make plans to travel to Switzerland to walk in the footsteps of the characters in the show. Jungfraujoch and Iseltwald, both figure as important locations in the story, but tourists are also clamoring to cross the 340-meter-long suspension bridge in Sigriswil, which offers a magnificent view of the famous Bernese Oberland peaks.
Fans are also flocking to Lake Brienz, where one character famously played the piano at the end of an iconic dock in the lake.
Of course, if you’re a fan of Crash Landing on You, we can absolutely start planning your adventure in Switzerland. Enjoy Zurich with its charming old town setting, the Limmat River and Lake Zurich. Take a chocolate tour. Ride the Glacier or Bernina Express — one of Switzerland’s legendary rail journeys. Whatever your travel style, we can make it happen for you.
Europe will almost certainly open to US Travelers this year, as the vaccine rolls out world-wide. And Switzerland is widely regarded as one of the safest destinations for travelers. If you’d like more info—we’d love to tell you about it.
