3 things to do in koh samui

Koh Samui, was once a sleepy Thai fishing village, but now it’s a top destination for travelers. There aren’t many places where you can soak up the sun, enjoy the nightlife, see the natural beauty and learn about the local culture. So, here are three of our top picks for what to do in Koh Samui.

1. MAE NAM BEACH, KOH SAMUI

Mae Nam Beach may be popular among families and backpackers, but it’s still a degree removed from Samui’s hyped-about spots, making it one of the best beaches in Thailand. With more than four miles of silky white sand lapped by calm surf, finding a relatively private chunk of shore isn’t too hard. The mellow spot also affords cloud-capped views of Koh Pha Ngan to the north, all enjoyed under the shade of an umbrella or coconut tree.

2. BIG BUDDHA TEMPLE

Established in 1972, WatPhraYai is a famous tourist attraction of Koh Samui and highly respected among the Buddhists and visitors. When you enter the temple, you will see the parking lots and souvenir shop where you can purchase clothes, caps and paintings. Tourists are definitely encouraged to visit Big Buddha but do remember that this is first and foremost a religious site. All temples in Thailand, including Big Buddha, have a basic dress code. The basic rule is for both sexes to cover shoulders, knees and ankles.

3. MU KO ANG THONG NATIONAL PARK

Established as a marine national park in 1980, Mu Ko Ang Thong National Park is an archipelago of 42 islands covering 102 square kilometers at the shore of the Surat Thai Province in the Gulf of Thailand. The park is registered as a Ramsar site by Ramsar Convention, an international treaty for recognition of important wetlands. The Wua Ta Lap viewpoint has spectacular panoramic views which is the main attraction of the park, accessible by a 500 meters long steep trail from the headquarters. The trail is not for faint-hearted, takes 25-30 minutes to walk, has rope for support and showing the way up. The viewpoint offers a great vista over all islands.
