air italy has collapsed
If you’ve been contemplating a trip to Italy, recently, and you were searching for the absolute lowest-cost flight to Europe, you were probably asking your travel advisor about Air Italy.
We were recently talking to a client about a trip to Sicily, and when crunching the numbers, traveling on Air Italy would have saved them quite a bit of money. When they asked us about the airline, they were concerned about a few different things—after all, Air Italy isn’t a household name like Alitalia, Delta, United or American Airlines.
Air Italy had a decent reputation in terms of comfort. It wasn’t fancy (it wasn’t even schmancy), but people weren’t complaining about the in-flight experience.
Air Italy had problems stemming from the grounding of the 737Max. But other airlines are dealing with that, as well.
The big problem with Air Italy was its financial footing. If you’re not inside the travel industry, you wouldn’t have known about the fact that Qatar Airways was in the mix on a complicated financial transaction with Air Italy that would have potentially kept a struggling airline afloat.
But, really, do you need that kind of granular detail? That’s what insurance is for. Carriers go under, from time to time, but the good news is that if you book your trip through us, and if you purchase a comprehensive travel insurance policy (which we always recommend), you could be protected in the event of a carrier default.
If you’re contemplating a trip, call us. Even if you’re on a budget, we can find good value for you. And we’re always ready to put an insurance policy in place so that you don’t have to worry about being left holding an empty bag.
