world lion day
Today is World Lion Day--a day dedicated to raising awareness of conservation issues that affect these amazing animals.
Populations of lions in the wild are in decline. But conservationists are doing important work, like conducting scientific research on the influence of human behavior on wildlife demography, promoting law enforcement efforts to stop poaching, and working to reduce human-lion conflicts. You can make a donation to the National Geographic Society's project to insure their survival by clicking here.
You can also go on a photo safari to learn more about lions. We recently sent clients to Botswana, and they sent us these fantastic photos of their encounters with these majestic animals. We think the best time to visit Southern Africa is in May or June, when it's the dry season. The vegetation isn't as dense, making it easy to see wildlife, and between game drives, you're more likely to see animals coming to the watering holes near your safari camp. Now's a terrific time to book something for next spring. Get in touch with us, and let us know if we can help!
And happy World Lion Day!
