Winter is coming, but Season 7 is here! And while it might not be possible for you to actually visit the fictional land of Westeros, it's definitely possible for us to send you to the gorgeous locations where Game of Thrones is filmed!

Many companies we work with offer day tours and excursions that are specifically designed to take you to locations where Game of Thrones was filmed. So, without further ado, here are just a few of places you can go on a Game of Thrones tour.  (Oh, and if you're not caught up, there are spoilers in this post.)

Seville and Osuna

Here’s your chance to step into the fantastical kingdoms of Dorne and Mereen on a guided tour of the scene-stealing Royal Alcazar of Seville, in Spain. You'll see the ornate Moorish gardens and courtyards where Oberyn’s venomous Sand Snakes’ plot revenge and Princess Myrcella falls in love, but you'll also learn about the palace’s real-life legacy. Then, you can take the train to neighboring Osuna to see the filming location of Mereen, including Danzak’s fighting pit, and savor a feast fit for the Mother of Dragons herself!

Iceland

This tour takes you to Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Iceland where scenes north of The Wall were filmed.  Look out for White Walkers! You'll also see the Þórufoss waterfall, where a local goat was attacked by one of Daenerys‘ dragons. You can also meet Icelandic horses who played parts as Westeros garrons, and are now enjoying their fame at a horse farm near Reykjavik. Almannagjá gorge in Thingvellir was used to film scenes depicting the Bloody gate of the Eyrie, and you'll visit there, too. And at the Thjorsárdalur valley, you can reimagine the scene where a quiet farming village was attacked by Wildlings and the Thenns. 

Malta

If you're a die-hard Game of Thrones fan, this tour in Malta is a must for you. See Flea Bottom, the Great Sept of Baelor, the Gardens of King's Landing, and the Red Keep Gate, all on one tour! Plus that, this trip is actually led by two tour guides who were actors on the show. You're sure to get the inside scoop on the filming at these locations. Not to mention that Malta is just plain gorgeous.

Dubrovnik and Split

Okay, so you'll want to bring a bell to Croatia you so that you can walk down those stairs chanting, "SHAME! SHAME!" Dubrovnik is easily recognizable as King's Landing, and we've got plenty of tours, that will take you there, You can follow in Joffrey’s footsteps at Lovrijenac Fortress and reimagine the Battle of Blackwater, explore the old town, imagining Queen Margery ducking into an alcove to visit a poor family, or head out to the Trsteno Arboretum, which was used as the setting for the palace gardens. 

Nearby Split was used for many of the locations in Meereen.  You can see Klis Fortress where Daenerys Targaryen launched an attack on the mountaintop city of Meereen, or explore Diocletian's Palace, where the slaves conspired with the Unsullied Army to overthrow the masters. Dubrovnik and Split are popular ports on many of our Mediterranean cruises, and we can easily book these as shore excursions for you!

Northern Ireland

There are so many Game of Thrones locations in Northern Ireland, you'll wonder if there's an inch of the country that didn't get filmed for the show. On our tours, you can check out Cushendun Caves, where Melisandre of Asshai gave birth to her ‘shadow baby’. You can see Larrybane, where Brienne of Tarth beat Ser Loras of the flowers and was given a place in Renly’s Kingsguard as her reward. You'll see Dunlace Castle, better known as the House of Greyjoy. And, you'll drive along the eerie Dark Hedges, where Ayra Stark made her escape from King’s Landing way back in Season 1. (Remember that?)

Girona

Lots of season six was shot in Girona, Spain, including locations for King's Landing and Braavos. This Game of Thrones walking tour really focuses on the old town of Girona, and your guides come armed with tablets, so that they can show you clips of the show that were filmed in the locations that you're visiting!

Essaouira, Ait Ben Haddou and Ouarzazate

Remember Astopor, from Season 3? Well, that's actually Essaouira, in Morocco. We've got a tour will take you to all of the filming locations, including the city's port, fortifications, and bustling souk. But on a different tour, you can also visit Ait Ben Haddou, a well-preserved Casbah that you might recognize as Yunkai, the Yellow City.  And nearby Ouarzazate was also where many other films have been shot, including Lawrence of Arabia and Star Wars.  While these tours aren't necessarily as focused on Game of Thrones trivial and lore, you'll definitely feel like you're on the set of the show.
