alaska explorer 2022

Travel to Alaska is back! We managed to get in on the last half of the Alaska season, and after a year and a half away, we loved being able to return to the Last Frontier.

We saw whales, sea otters, mountain goats, and bears. We saw calving glaciers and rode the White Pass railway. We cuddled sled dog puppies at an actual training camp for Iditarod racers. And we ate some amazing Alaskan food -- some of the freshest seafood you'll find anywhere. On prior trips to Alaska, we've landed on top of a glacier in a helicopter, rode bikes down the side of a mountain from the Canadian Border to the sea, and kayaked with curious harbor seals. There's so much to see and do in Alaska -- this is definitely not a cookie-cutter cruise vacation. So, the big news is that we're heading north to Alaska in 2022, as well! We've taken out group space on an incredible itinerary, and we'd love for you to join us.

Holland America is really one of the best for Alaska. They've been sailing to Alaska longer than just about any other cruise line, and they know the destination inside and out. And because everything on Holland is elevated, you're not going to find belly flop competitions by the pool -- this is a really authentic and immersive way to experience the parts of Alaska that you can only access from the water.

Cruise Line: Holland America

Ship: Eurodam

Dates Saturday, July 9 - Saturday, July 16, 2022

Roundtrip from Seattle, WA

Itinerary:

  • July 9 Depart Seattle, Washington. Scenic cruising of the Puget Sound. Raise a glass at the sail-away party on deck, as you look for orcas and marvel at the mountains in the distance.

  • July 10 Day at Sea. Schedule a spa treatment, enjoy the onboard entertainment, or maybe learn more about the destination ahead of us through an onboard enrichment program at Explorer's Central.

  • July 11 Scenic cruising of the Stephens Passage in the morning. Keep an eye out for whales, perhaps from the balcony of your veranda stateroom. Arrive in Juneau at 1 p.m., with a late-night departure at 10 p.m. Visit the Mendenhall Glacier, meet some sled dog puppies at Sled Dog Summer Camp, or take the Mount Roberts Tramway up to the hiking trails with incredible views.

  • July 12 Glacier Bay National Park Scenic Cruising in the morning and afternoon. We recommend booking a cabana at The Retreat onboard, where you can relax away from the crowds with incredible views of the majestic glaciers of this National Treasure -- Glacier Bay can only be accessed by sea, and Holland America is one of the few cruise lines sanctioned to bring travelers to this National Park. Then, depart for Icy Strait Point. Arrive at 6 p.m. for an evening port-of-call, departing Icy Strait Point at 10 p.m. Take an evening shore excursion to explore the wildlife and wilderness of one of the most remote and least-visited ports in the area.

  • July 13 A full day port-of-call in Sitka, Alaska. Explore the Russian heritage of this Alaskan town, or perhaps take the "Otters and Raptors and Bears! Oh, My!" excursion where you can get up close and personal with sea otters and bald eagles, but also visit a rescue facility for Alaska's brown and black bears.

  • July 14 Arrive in Ketchikan, Alaska at 7 a.m., depart at 1 p.m. Stroll Creek Street -- the gold-rush era red light district of the "gateway to Alaska", and maybe book an "all you can eat" crab feast where the delicious Dungeness crab just keeps coming and coming.

  • July 15 An evening port-of-call in Victoria, British Columbia. Arrive at 7:30 p.m., depart at 11:30 p.m. Take an evening excursion to Buchart Gardens, or just explore this charming city that puts the "British" in "British Columbia."

  • July 16 Arrive in Seattle for your return trip home, or talk to us about extending your trip to see more of the Pacific Northwest!

Huckleberry Travel has a special group rate for this sailing, with lots of added value embedded into the package. Our exclusive rates include:

  • Wi-Fi Surf Package. Stay connected throughout your journey. Surf the web, use social media, check email, and send messages to friends and family.
